Espanyol vs Barcelona: Alineaciones, Jornada 36 LaLiga

Flick Set to Make History as Barcelona Chase 28th La Liga Title at Espanyol

Flick Stays Focused Ahead of Derby Clash: “I’m Only Thinking About Winning”

As the tension builds ahead of the highly anticipated derby, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick remains calm and composed, distancing himself from any emotional distractions or controversies.

In the pre-match press conference, Flick made it clear that his sole focus is on winning the match, setting aside all speculation about possible title celebrations or heated derby emotions.

“My only goal is to win the game,” he stated firmly, showing no interest in pre-match drama or unnecessary headlines.

By keeping a low profile, Flick is choosing discipline over distraction, believing that emotional excess and controversy have no place in professional sport—no matter how intense the rivalry may be.

His measured approach reflects his commitment to leadership, clarity, and respect for the game, as Barça move one step closer to lifting the La Liga trophy.

Flick Aims to Make History as Barça Look to Clinch Their 28th La Liga Title on Thursday

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is on the verge of making history. The German coach could become the first of his nationality to win a La Liga title with Barça, and the 10th coach overall to do so in his debut season at the club.

Flick’s goal is clear: secure the league title this Thursday, which would mark the 28th La Liga in Barcelona’s storied history. Remarkably, it would also be the 18th time the club has clinched the title before the end of the season, and the 13th time they’ve done it away from home.

If successful, this would also be the second time Barcelona seal the league title at Espanyol’s ground, joining a list of away venues that includes:

  • Arenas Getxo (1929)

  • Atlético de Madrid (1959 & 2015)

  • Sporting de Gijón (1974)

  • Valladolid (1985)

  • Alavés (1999)

  • Levante (2005 & 2011)

  • Celta Vigo (2006)

  • Granada (2016)

  • Deportivo La Coruña (2018)

Injuries & Team News

Espanyol, who have never beaten Barcelona in a league match at their new stadium (6 draws and 7 losses), are still missing Brian Oliván due to injury.

For Barça, Flick received some bad news on Wednesday:

  • Ferran Torres has undergone emergency surgery for appendicitis and will miss the rest of the season.

  • Jules Koundé remains sidelined with injury.

  • Iñigo Martínez is suspended and unavailable for selection.

Despite these setbacks, the Blaugrana are determined to get the job done and bring the trophy back to Camp Nou.
