Strasbourg Open: Danielle Collins Advances to Semifinals After Kalinskaya Withdrawal
American tennis star Danielle Collins has advanced to the semifinals of the Strasbourg Open after her quarter-final opponent, Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya, withdrew ahead of their scheduled match on Thursday evening at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg.
Collins, currently ranked No. 46 in the world, will now face eighth seed Liudmila Samsonova, also from Russia, in the next round.
The 30-year-old American has had a strong run in Strasbourg, defeating compatriot Sofia Kenin (6-1, 1-6, 6-2) and British wildcard Emma Raducanu (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) in the earlier rounds.
Kalinskaya, ranked No. 30, had an impressive tournament prior to her withdrawal, overcoming American qualifier Caroline Dolehide (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) and top seed Jessica Pegula (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
