Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Ben Cohen Arrested During Senate Protest Over Gaza War Funding

Ben Cohen, co-founder of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, was arrested on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., after disrupting a Senate committee hearing to protest U.S. military funding for Israel amid its war in Gaza.

The 74-year-old activist was part of a group of protesters who interrupted a Senate Health Committee session where Robert F. Kennedy Jr., acting as health secretary, was presenting President Trump’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The protestors shouted and held signs during the hearing, calling attention to what they described as a misallocation of U.S. funds—criticizing the government for financing war abroad while cutting social programs like Medicaid at home.

Cohen was detained by Capitol Police, as seen in a video he shared on social media. In the clip, with his hands behind his back, he said:

“Congress is paying to bomb poor kids in Gaza and paying for it by kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the U.S.”

He also urged lawmakers to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, where famine warnings have been issued by the United Nations and other global aid organizations.

This is not the first time Cohen has spoken out on political issues; he has long used his platform to advocate for peace, justice, and human rights around the world.
